Five facts about coffee
#1 Coffee originated in the region of either Yemen where it went by the name of Qahwa, which means wine, or in the Ethiopian province of Kaffa.
#2 Muslims were the first ardent coffee drinkers as it was considered an acceptable drink by Islam in place of forbidden alcoholic beverages.
#3 Its spread to Europe via the Ottoman trade routes was initially treated with suspicion until Pope Clement VIII who loved a caffeine fix said it was OK.
#4 Coffee drinking is claimed to have health benefits for the  cardiovascular system  as well as for those suffering from diabetes and breast cancer. 
#5 Figures from the International Coffee Organization in London, report that in 2012 in Europe and North America we consumed 70.6 million 60kg bags of coffee.
